Family Portrait Shoot

July 19, 2010

I was so excited to photograph this beautiful family and mother-to-be for the third time.   They have two boys, and are expecting their third boy in August.  I’m glad we had room to run around at this shoot because 5 year old Colby, and 2 1/2 year old Garrett were very busy!  They’re going to have a lot of things to teach their new brother, from riding four-wheelers to climbing fences.   I can’t wait to capture all three of them together someday.

Sasha & Kevin’s Wedding

June 4, 2010

When I started driving down to Harrisburg (just north of Eugene) for this wedding, it was pouring down rain.  After passing through Salem, I saw sun breaks and the rain completely stopped for the rest of the day and evening!  I got the privilege to work with two amazing photographers at this wedding, Karen Stott and Melanie Whitaker.  We had about two hours to play around and shoot this beautiful couple before the ceremony started.  It was so much fun, and they were willing to try pretty much anything!

Newborn Baby Saoirse

May 18, 2010

This was such a fun photo shoot of baby Saoirse.  What a great baby she is, and so photogenic already.  She didn’t care if we were inside or outside, she just went with the flow.  We decided to do photos at my place in Eagle Creek and thankfully the weather was nice.  I really enjoyed photographing her from all different angles.  Thanks Seonaid for a fun afternoon!

Newborn Portrait Shoot

April 2, 2010

I want to introduce to you baby Rylee!  She was born early last month, and whomever follows my blog will notice that I photographed Rylee’s beautiful mother back in January.  Baby’s are so fun to photograph, because you can put them in pretty much any position (usually while they’re sleeping) and take as many photos in as many different angles as you’d like, and they never move.  So, set them up and shoot away!

Maternity Portrait Shoot

March 19, 2010

I was really excited for this photo shoot.  Not only did I get to photograph a beautiful glowing mommy-to-be, but I got to hang out with my best two girlfriends….the third, being Laura my lighting assistant!  We did this photo shoot at Meinig Park in Sandy, OR.  It was pretty shaded, and the sun was shining.   Laura held a reflector so I could bounce light off of it from my external flash unit.  There were a few shots where we got the sun reflection.  I set my camera to aperture priority as low as it can go, so I could make her pop and stand out a little more from the background.

Engagement Portrait

March 14, 2010

I got the privilege of photographing this beautiful couple, Matt & Laurie, who are tying the knot this coming August in Jamaica.  We did our photo shoot down in Oregon City, OR at Clackamette Park.  They brought along their really cool modified golf cart, and wanted to get some pictures with it.  I think everyone needs a golf cart on a photo shoot.  We pretty much toured the whole park without having to break a sweat on foot!  Thanks guys, looking forward to the reception in Sept.

It’s a Dogs Day

February 2, 2010

A day in the life of a dog, more specifically, my dog.  This is TJ and he will be seven next month.  He’s your typical hyper, non-stop, wants attention all the time Labrador Retriever.  It was a nice day out, and he looked like he wanted some extra attention, so I thought it would be fun to capture our playing time on camera.  Don’t let him fool you though, I caught him relaxing on the job as well.

Jessica’s Maternity Photo Shoot

January 27, 2010

We did Jessica’s photo shoot outside on my property tonight, and believe me when I tell you, the lighting between 4 and 5pm was to die for!  Jessica is truly a glowing mommy-to-be, and with those beautiful blue eyes and golden hair, she was amazing to shoot.  Because of my love for horses and the fact that she is my sister-in-law, I talked her into getting a few shots laying across my western saddle.  I told her the saddle photos are for my niece, because I am going to teach her to ride someday.  Plus, when do you see pregnant women on saddles??

Velocity Shots was a featured blog

January 25, 2010

Recently, Alphabetix featured a post about why its important for businesses to blog.  They decided to feature Velocity Shots as an example of a blog that demostrates field knowledge.   Here’s how I do it.  When I write a blog post, I like to tell a little story about the people or animals I photograph and the location of choice.  I also like to include the lighting conditions I’m working with to determine the best exposure for each shot.  Here’s an example of how I write a blog post about equine photography.

Ernst Ranch Equine Photo Shoot

January 14, 2010

We took advantage of this great overcast day in mid January and captured some amazing shots of this gorgeous two year old stud colt, Ty, at the Ernst Ranch in Eagle Creek, OR.   I love the photo shoots where my flash just sits in the camera bag.  The natural light was awesome!  You would never know this horse was only two.  He is so well mannered and desensitized to just about everything already.  In fact, he was almost to the point of bored after having a plastic bag waved around so much.  Rebekah Ernst has done an amazing job with Ty’s foundation training that he should develop into quite an athletic cutting horse!
